Looking at the British Standard (aka Lucas) colour codes for automotive wiring. It appears that our friends who add streaks of colour to their hair are:

	MAIN	TRACER	PURPOSE
	Black		All earth connections
	Black	Brown	Tachometer generator to tachometer
drglam	Black	Blue	Tachometer generator to tachometer
Crash	Black	Red	Electric or electronic speedometer to sensor
sunspiral	Black	Purple	Tempreature switch to warning light
	Black	Green	Relay to radiator fan motor
	Black	Light green	Vacuum brake switch or brake differential pressure valve to warning light and/or buzzer
drwex	Black	White	Brake fluid level warning light to switch and handbrake swith, or radio to speakers
	Black	yellow	Electric speedometer
frobzwiththingz	Black	Orange	Radiator fan motor to thermal switch

I have been vaguely considering re-adding a purple streak. I think a warning light for overheating would be an EXTREMELY useful thing for me, and I bet I can find at least one guitarist who would agree...
