The roofer invasion continues. Today, they started working on the south facing roof.

Yesterday, a truck showed up at 7am and dropped off a lot of supplies (everything but the middle two pallets in the photo). Tomorrow, there probably will be another delivery with two pallets of foam insulation for the bedroom roof.

Yesterday's 7am delivery.

They brought a large crew (a dozen people) and attacked the south facing roofs and the carport roof. The 150-year-old roof was in good shape. The carport needed a few boards replaced.

To protect the windows from falling debris as they worked on the roof, they put OSB boards in front of the windows. In the living room, this blocked all of the light. It felt a bit like I was in a horror movie where someone covered the house to keep me in.

I've always wanted some sort of window in the upstairs bathroom, but it's not a good idea to cut a hole in an existing roof, it just leads to roof leaks. But when the roof is being replaced is a good time to add a skylight. Fortunately, I was able to find a small skylight (23"x23") that was the very close to the size of the available space. Now we have light (during the day) and ventilation (in the summer).

We have sky light!

You're having the satellite-house roof replaced too?? Isn't that only 10 or so years old?

It's a little older than that, but it was beginning to fail (it was installed by a family friend and not a professional roofer). I decided that instead of waiting until later to replace it, to just do it along with the rest of the roofs.

This also means that the roofs will match (a minor plus). The Cool Vent system requires architectural shingles (for their weight), the previous roof is the standard 3-tab shingles.
