In my previous LJ post, I described my victory over a small bunch of wasps.  What I didn't know was that while I was distracted by their small decoy ploy, more insidious wasp activity was going on behind the barn.

The day after I dealt with the small nest, David the carpenter told me that there was another nest on the back side of the barn.  He said it was the largest wasp nest he's ever seen.  About a week or two previously, I had raised the door to take a car out for a Sunday drive.  I hadn't noticed their nest or their activity.  Who normally looks up to the top of a door, 14' up?  It turns out that a much larger colony of wasps had built a nest above the overhead door at the rear of the barn.

If I hadn't known about the nest, the nest probably would have fallen about one foot away from where I normally stand when I next opened the door.  I don't think either of us would be happy about the situation.

When I get back from my vacation, I'll have to take up the battle with the wasps again.  Hopefully I'll triumph once more.

For scale in these pictures, the panels in the overhead door are 21" high.  In the first picture, you can't see any wasps, but you can see their shadows.
