Work on Ann's vegetable bed is slowly progressing.
This afternoon, I went to Home Depot and got 21 fifty pound bags of gravel (I was a bit surprised that I was able to push 1,050 lbs (plus the weight of the cart) to the front of the store). I like having a real TRUCK. It's suspension didn't notice the weight of the gravel. When I got home, I unloaded the bags of gravel and Ann and I spread the gravel around the veggie bed to provide a layer for drainage.
A bit later,
trg and her parents (nice folks) showed up and we made two runs over to the town's leaf dump and filled the back of the truck with containers filled with nice, dark, rich dirt for the veggie bed. Having TRG and her parents to help fill up the truck, really made the task easy.
Afterwards, we had a bbq. The bugs weren't too bad, so we ate outside. TRG's mother makes tasty burgers. And
donnad's pickles went well with the burgers.
Tomorrow, I go back to Home Depot and get 1,000 pounds of sand to mix in with the dirt. And then the back of my truck gets hosed out.
The veggie bed is only 1/2 filled with dirt, but it's much easier to mix in the sand and fertilizer if you do it in stages.
