I just got a phone call from the town's police warning that people have been stealing manhole covers and storm grates. They ask that if we see anyone working on the road that is not in a vehicle with the town seal, we should call 911.

Aside from the cost to the town for replacing them, I'm worried about the damage that might occur to anyone that unexpectedly encounters an open manhole or storm grate.

Someone forwarded to me an email with a bunch of uncaptioned, cute animal photos. One of which was a picture of a bunch of flamingos crowded into the corner of a men's bathroom.

After skipping past pages of flamingo themed bathroom accessories, I finally found something that explained why there were flamingos in a men's bathroom.

Severe Weather

All zoos that receive severe weather should have an emergency preparedness plan for their flamingos. The potential for severe weather includes hurricanes, tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, hail, flooding, extreme temperatures (hot or cold), ice storms and blizzards. Some southern zoos have used public bathrooms as safe areas for their birds during severe weather. Other zoos have set contingency plans and designated holding areas.
