Today Ann and I went to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts to see the TMBG movie, Gigantic.  BTW the museum will probably be showing the movie again in November and December.

The movie was fun, but the most interesting part of our trip to the museum was watching a mama squirrel and her young offspring in the courtyard while we ate our dinner.  A minor mystery is how did the squirrel get into the courtyard in the first place, the walls are three stories high.  But once in the courtyard, it's probably a good place to be a squirrel.  Lots of trees to climb, no predators, and lots of tasty food.  (Ann thinks that there was probably a younger set of offspring hidden somewhere in the courtyard)

When we came out of the cafeteria to grab a table in the courtyard, the mama squirrel was lounging on top of a wall.  She hopped off the wall when Ann tossed a grape in her direction but after sniffing it, she decided she didn't like it.  She approached the table and waited for us to give her something better. After waiting for a bit she decided to wandered off to the trash can and went burrowing through it for goodies.  Occasionally we'd hear strange noises and we'd see her tail.  Eventually she hopped out with a small piece of food that she carried in her mouth as she climbed up a tree to eat it.  Later she climbed back in and emerged with half a slice.  It was too large to carry up a tree, so she hid behind the trash can while eating it.

While this was going on, we also watched the young squirrels run around the courtyard and play.  They were exploring the area, searching for food and places to play.  We heard some loud squeaking as a young pair briefly wrestled.

I'm pleased that the MFA has allowed the squirrels to continue to hang out at the museum.
