Here's a follow up to my previous post.

I went to Home Depot, hoping I'd find a pole for supporting the bird feeder, so I could move it away from the trees. I couldn't find anything pre-made for a bird feeder, but I found a 3' pointy metal stake for supporting signs. That, plus some plastic electrical conduit (very cheap material for projects), was used to make a new pole for the bird feeder.

I haven't yet spotted any signs of squirrels getting into the bird feeder at it's new location, but the squirrels seem a bit annoyed, one of them was sitting on the railing with its tail twitching.

Ann says that the cats like the new bird feeder (I chose a location where they can easily watch it).
